From hostile alien worlds where creeping red fungus drives men to madness, to the simple insanities of living an unfulfilling domestic life, we at the Westside Fairytales have written a horror story for you.

Not you in that broad, neopolitical sense, where you just means anybody, but you, Dear Listener. We know all about you. What makes you nervous, what makes you sick with anxiety, what keeps you from leaving your house sometimes for the maddening worry of it.

And we’ve put it in a story. A story we’ll read for you.

Support independent horror today by subscribing to the Westside Fairytales on Himalaya. For just $4.99, you'll get ad-free access to regular episodes of the show before anybody else. You'll also get access to special Behind the Story episodes where creator Tyler Bell goes into the inspiration and ideas behind each story. Join today, and keep great horror independent!

The Twinkling Kad

Ad-free AvailableA disgraced former professor is forced to take a job as a night watchman after his career and life fall apart. After spending some time alone in the dark on his night patrols, he finds his new station in life is far from the worst of his worries.Today’s tale is based loosely on my own life. I too lost a job I’d worked very hard to get, and I too had to take work as a night watchman at a construction site. Sitting there in the dark, alone in the middle of nowhere, you will start seeing things. Little bursts of light and twists of shadow. The only thing more frightening than that, I believe, would be finding out the thing you thought you’d seen was actually there.Support us on PatreonFollow us on social media: Twitter | Facebook | InstagramJoin the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit ClubSend us an emailArtwork by Yui BreedloveThis month’s recommendation:Literature recommendation:“Summer of Night” by Dan Simmons For information regarding your data privacy, visit Acast.com/privacy
