About Us

My name is Zdenek and I am a qualified English teacher from the Czech Republic. Back in 2013 I started this podcast to help myself achieve C2 level in speaking. Over the years, it has grown in popularity and now has its appreciative audience. On the podcast I often interview interesting people that I meet (often English native speakers), and talk about subjects that relate to my life. Sometimes I teach language, too. So buckle up and come along for the ride.

Episode 291 - Coronavirus Mini Interviews (part 1)

In this admittedly rather depressing series I talk to my friends who live in different parts of the world to tell us about how the coronavirus crisis is being tackled in their country and how this situation is personality affecting their lives. This series has a form of mini interviews which are about 8-10 minutes long and there will be more parts to follow. Part 1 features Alexander from Russia, Musa from Turkey who is currently living in the UK, Daniel from Switzerland who is also known from My Fluent Podcast, and last but not least, Daria from Ukraine. I apologize for lower quality of the recordings. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Facebook - join Zdenek's English Podcast Facebook group, like, share and comment on Facebook www.teacherzdenek.com - my website (work in progress) Apple Podcasts - write a brief review on I-tunes and help more people find this podcast

Episode 288 - An Interview with Mexican Diana

In this episode I talk to my ex-student Diana from Mexico. I taught Diana for about 5 months in total so it felt very fitting to finish off her English study adventures here in the UK with an interview for Zdenek's English Podcast. The interview revolves around three main topics. Diana's professional life as a journalist, her home country Mexico, and our lessons and Diana's unreserved love for my teaching methods i.e. my use of board games in our classes. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Facebook - join Zdenek's English Podcast Facebook group, like, share and comment on Facebook teacherzdenek.com - my website (work in progress) Apple podcasts - write a brief review on I-tunes and help more people find this podcast

Episode 287 - Reporting Verbs

This episode has 2 parts. In the first part, I go through some mistakes I made in the previous episode and clarify potential sticking points. Part 2 is devoted to the topic of reporting verbs. It is done in a for of an exercise. In fact, you will have a unique chance to listen to an exercise I prepared for my upper intermediate students this week. I thought, I might as well make an episode of it. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Facebook - join Zdenek's English Podcast Facebook group, like, share and comment on Facebook teacherzdenek.com - my website (work in progress) I-tunes - write a brief review on I-tunes and help more people find this podcast

Episode 283 - Nurcan Baysal

This episode is dedicated toNurcan Baysal who is a Kurdish journalist and a human rights activist from Turkey. Few months ago I taught her in an advanced class here in London. A week later I went to a panel discussion with her in Free Word in Farringdon. I had been invited to this event by my colleague Billie, an English teacher, who also features in this episode. Essentially, the episode is a series of monologues and dialogues with Billie and also my cousin Honza who as we know knows a lot about history. We try to offer our view on censorship in Turkey, explain who the Kurds are, and try to break down what has been going on in Turkey. I hope we managed to do justice to Nurcan's unrelenting effort and work. I don't normally do heavier topics like this on my podcast, but I think if approached in the right way, they can have a powerful effect on the audience and I am convinced this was the right thing to do.
