FFFoxy Podcast #157

I’ve got a lot of great material to play for you on this installment of the FFFoxy Podcast, including several releases that came out at the tail end of last year and a few older things that I’ve only recently acquired. There seems to be a larger psych folk presence in the playlist this time around, probably because I’ve been gravitating to more song-oriented work of late, but I think you’ll find the selections to still be quite wide-ranging overall. Regardless, I hope you discover something new within. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments about this episode. As always, thanks for looking and listening. ~Introductory Music: Channelers “A Quiet Invitation” Dan Melchior Group “Black Hat” Ruins 2LP (Heel Turn) Hauras “Low and Mean” Snickers Songs & The Melchior Suite CS (Weigh Out Tapes) Sumuposauttaja “Face” SP1ALBUM CS (Cudighi) Vivien Le Fay “Ecchymosis” Ecolalia LP (Boring Machines) Delphine Dora “Songe” L’inattingible LP* (Three:Four) Kiwi Animal “Time of the Leaves” Music Media LP (Digital Regress) Prana Crafter “Blooming of the Third Ear” Bodhi Cheetah’s Choice LP (Beyond Beyond Is Beyond) ~Talk break~ Magnetic Ghost “Light” Pixels LP (Round Bale Recordings) Kendra Amalie “Become The Light” Intuition LP (Beyond Beyond Is Beyond) Blood Warrior “Wooden Shade” Animal Hides LP (Ernest Jenning Record Co) Pan American “Memphis Helena” A Son LP (Kranky) Rafi Bookstaber “(Gonna Be A) Late Summer” Late Summer LP (Woodsist) Radere “I Failed To Surprise Myself Again” The Blood CS (Full Spectrum) ~Talk break~ Iceblink “Cellphone in the Bath” Carpet Cacoon CS* (Moon Glyph) Singapore Police Background “Outside the Blossoming Trees Wept…” Antiworlds CD (Kirigirisu Recordings) Shō “First Snow” Infinity Plus One CS (Audio.Visuals.Atmosphere) François Dufrêne “PostcriRYTHptum” Oeuvre Désintégrale 3CD (Alga Marghen/Guy Schraenen Éditeur) Territorial Gobbing “Having a Normal One Online” (excerpt) split w/ Brian Ruryk (self-released) Mausim “Part II” …the new humanity LP (HP Cycle) Razen “Reversal Dub” The Xvoto Reels LP (Three:Four) ~Talk break~ Movietone “The Blossom Filled Streets” The Blossom Filled Streets LP (Drag City) Rob Clutton with Tony Malaby “Refuge” Offering CD (SnailBongBong)

Other Worlds Other Sounds: Weirdo BEATLEMANIA!

WEIRDO BEATLEMANIA Do you LOVE THE BEATLES? or… maybe you HATE them? This is not ortodox Beatlemania, ok? Since many years ago the Beatles stuff I'm more interested in is all kind of rare miscellany, outtakes, free experiments from the pyschedelic years, and also the weirdest covers of their songs. This will be the first of a series of Weirdo BEATLEMANIA Mixtapes. Here you can find, among other things, rarities from the bootlegs 'The Lost Pepperland Reel', the 'Magical Mystery Demos' and covers taken from the magnificent 4 Volumes of Exotic Beatles (http://www.exoticarecords.co.uk/beatles.html) with the most bizarre versions of (and about) The Beatles, from all around the world! For the end, maybe… the rarest Beatles track ever?? The ULTRA RARE and hard to find (thanks Dr. Onan) take 3 of Helter Skelter, a hellish 27 minute version where the band played through a tape echo. Listening with headphones, you can't recognize the song… LOL. The result is somethin' like Spacemen 3 havin...

Guest Mixtape #3: Natalie Rose LeBrecht

There are three pieces of music I’d like to share, that I discovered and fell in love with in 2019. The first piece, Camille Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 4 in C minor, Op. 44, had its premiere 144 years ago in 1875 in Paris. This concerto truly makes my heart sing and has provided an invigorating soundtrack to many walks around lower Manhattan. The work was consummately constructed and traverses a vast emotional and visceral landscape - from breathtakingly beautiful etheric moments to mind-blowing maniacal scenes I could easily imagine soundtracking HBO's Westworld in its most glorious action sequences. As a pianist, I can only imagine how thrilling it must have been for Saint-Saëns to perform the piano part - I'll never know, as I'll never be virtuosic enough - at least in this life - to pull off such a feat. But at least I have the ears and mind to appreciate its complexity and precision. The second piece is Otone No Nagare Ni Sote composed by Tsuyoshi Sakamoto, and performe...

FFFoxy Podcast #156 with Chris Berry of Soft Abuse / Fruits & Flowers

On this installment of the podcast, Chris Berry of Soft Abuse Records joined us in the KMSU studios in Mankato for what has been an annual tradition going on a decade now. Our usual meet-up time got pushed back several months due to home relocations and other scheduling conflicts, but it’s always a treat to have Chris come down armed with his box, or in this case bags, of LP surprises. This time around he came out swinging with some Christian concrète, Psychedelic sitar, and Eveleth experimentation. Plus, he held out until the end to unveil brand new Pumice and Matthew De Gennaro tracks due out on Soft Abuse in the coming months. These shows are always so much fun to do, and the music selections are impeccable from start to finish. Hope you enjoy! Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments. As always, thanks for looking and listening. One Way “The Sounds of Life (Taped Sequences)” Worship: An Experiment, An Experience LP (Century Records) ~Introduction / Tal...
