Podcast 7 – Volleyball Business with Daniel R. Schmidt and Oliver Wagner

The business side of the sport of volleyball is something I'm very interested in and I don't think it tends to be handled as well as it should. This episode of the podcast starts what I hope is a series of conversations on that topic. In Germany recently the volleyball community had what they called a "Kongress". Business topics were among those discussed. My guest in this conversation - Daniel R. Schmidt and Oliver Wagner - both presented. I have them share what they talked about, and also what they heard from other presentations. Support the podcast by becoming a patron. Podcast 6 – Medaille College staff discussion

One of the threads I thought to include in this podcast series is one where I include my assistant coaches at Medaille College. The idea is to make it a way for them to expand their knowledge and further their development. At the same time, it would allow me to hit on topics that are of interest to younger and/or less experienced coaches that I might not think of myself. In this initial conversation, we talk about the two teams heading into being able to get on the court with them. It's part a discussion of personnel and a talk about objectives. I'll be curious to hear what you think. I mentioned the drill Flip-Switch during the episode. Support the podcast by becoming a patron. Podcast 5 – Mick Haley interviewing Brian Gimmillaro

This episode is a change from the norm. In it one legendary coach, Mick Haley, interviews another legendary coach, Brian Gimmillaro. This interview is destined for use in the Volleyball Coaching Wizards project (for which I interviewed Mick), but there are aspects of what Brian talks about that I think are interesting and very much of immediate interest. If you don't know Brian Gimmillaro, he coached Long Beach State to three NCAA Division I championships. That includes the first ever undefeated season. His program produced multiple future USA Women's National team players. Mick and Brian previous teamed up for a Coaching Conversation on the subject of Steps to Prepare for the Upcoming Season. Podcast 4 – Transitioning players to the next level with Liam Sketcher

Liam Sketcher is an Australian coach who has worked with teams from youth through professional to the national team levels. In this conversation we talk about helping players make the move from the youth/Juniors ranks to the next level (pro, college, etc.). We look at it both from the perspective of the youth coach and the pro/college coach. Liam was a guest on a couple of the initial Coaching Conversations. One of them was Managing teams with professional and non-professional players when he joined Jakob Møller, Manager at Nordenskov UIF Volley (Denmark). The other was the question grab bag session he did with Mark Lebedew and Lauren Bertolacci. Support the podcast by becoming a patron. Podcast 3 – Being and overseeing assistant coaches with Miguel Rivera

Miguel Rivera is head coach of the Spanish professional club Volley Teruel where he's won league and cup titles. He's also an assistant coach for the Spanish Men's National team. In this conversation we talk about both sides of the assistant coaching equation - being an assistant and being a head coach overseeing assistants. As I note in the episode, Miguel was a guest on the first episode of the original Conversation series where we talked about match preparation with Mark Lebedew. Podcast 1 – Improving your coaching through video, with Mark Lebedew

We coaches encourage our players to develop their Volleyball IQ through the analysis of video. We can use it ourselves as well. This episode of the podcasts talks about how. My guest, Mark Lebedew, is a former national team coach for the Australian men, with experience in Olympic qualifications, World Championships, Volleyball Nations League, and more. He's also a long time professional volleyball coach in Europe, most recently in Poland. Mark's three German championships and a Champions League bronze medal earned at Berlin definitely brought him to many people's attention in the volleyball world. You can find his thoughts about coaching and our sport on his blog at marklebedew.com. Mark is also my partner on the Volleyball Coaching Wizards project. In the Conversation, Mark and I alluded to a series of blog posts he'd posted where he used video to examine what actually happened in a set of game situations. Here's the 3rd in the sequence. From there you can reach the others. Also in the episode Mark talks about Magic Eye, which he subsequently blogged about. Support the podcast by becoming a patron. You can find a complete list of the initial series of Coaching Conversations here. As you will see, Mark was involved in several of them.
